21 Aug 2018

She Called Me Woman, edited by Azeenarh MohammedChitra Nagarajan and Rafeeat Aliyu, is a controversial and stirring new collection of candid accounts, which offers an unprecedented window into the experiences of queer women in Nigeria. Co-editor Chitra Nagarajan is an activist, researcher and writer who has spent the last 15 years working on human rights and peace building and involved in feminist, anti-racist, anti-fundamentalist and queer movements. Join Chitra in conversation with activist, journalist and Everyday Sexismfounder Laura Bates on 21st August to discuss what it means to be queer in Nigeria, how one embraces the label of ‘woman’ and how stereotypes of what we assume is lesbian, bisexual, gay, and trans can be challenged.
